ACTIVITIES PROGRAM

A vast program of activities is in operation, including a supervised study period in the evenings, in order to allow each boarder to both fraternise and stretch out and discover new or hidden talents and develop his or her natural skills. The activities program includes sports and socio-cultural activities according to the choices made by the students.

RESIDENCE

Laurentian Academy offers students who are attending for the entire academic year, a complete boarding service from 5 to 7 days per week. The boarding school reproduces the family milieu as faithfully as possible. The rooms are laid out comfortably and adapted to the age of the resident in each case. Most of them have a private bathroom. Common rooms are made available to boarders (with different rooms for different age groups) for evening activities. In order to promote a structured group experience in surroundings of quality,  Laurentian Academy provides quarters for its boarders at the rate (on average) of three students per room. Students are responsible for the quarters put at their disposal during the time they are at the boarding school (cleanliness and tidiness).

The buildings are equipped with a smoke and heat detection system, automatic sprinklers and an alarm system. Video cameras are installed in the corridors and common rooms. Vehicle entrance to the campus is controlled. Boarding house staff members sleep in the same accommodation sections as the students and are available during the night, if needed.

RELIGION

Laurentian Academy welcomes students from all corners of the planet without reference to race, language, colour or religion. Students are encouraged to follow their religious practices and to respect their obligations, each according to their spiritual values. It is a fundamental aspect of their education. Within the institutional model, a number of periods are devoted to Moral Education. The Academy maintains close relations with the religious personnel of the Parish of St. Norbert ; mess is celebrated at the church every Sunday and parents who would like their children to be prepared for Confirmation are invited to request information at the school.

HEALTH

Appropriate measures are always taken with regard to hygiene and cleanliness, and the well being of the students. Taking responsibility for the space they inhabit is part of the educational process, and is used to develop the sense of responsibility and autonomy of each student.   If necessary, students are driven to the Laurentian Hospital in Ste-Agathe-des-Monts, which is about 10 minutes from the campus.

FOOD

The menu has been developed by a professional dietician and a nutritional consultant specialised in schools. Finding the right balance and maintaining the popularity of the menu are constant preoccupations. Working on a four-week cycle, the menu is composed of some 40 main courses and desserts. Each week, the "chef’s special’" and the international buffet are meals made memorable by the surprises they contain, which are likely to appeal to all nationalities present. Birthdays are highlighted and different celebrations occurring during the year receive a special mention.

OPENING ON THE WORLD

Following the international values of it’s founder, Yvan Dubois, and with the object of promoting enriching cultural exchanges, Laurentian Academy welcomes small groups from all five continents on campus throughout the year, for stays of limited duration. We also carry out annual cultural trips abroad for our students and develop a cultural program each year. In addition to the Ministry of Education’s (MEQ) regular program, the Laurentian Academy, always seeking to offer a teaching program of the highest quality, offers the international ISA programme for students in Secondary 4 and 5 aimed at science (436 and 536). The program also includes  the study of a third language  . As an option, we offer our students the opportunity of perfecting their knowledge of either English or Spanish by participating in linguistic activities organised for all levels. A total of 60 hours (2 hours per week) of linguistic activities is proposed.
